This presentation covers eligibility factors for retirement, survivor, and disability benefits. Included will be an explanation of the 2016 changes in the social security law (suspending/restricting to spousal benefits) by showing examples of several different strategies. This event is essential for making an informed decision about when to start receiving retirement, spousal, and widow(er) benefits. The basic eligibility factors for disability benefits will also be discussed; i.e. insured status, medical criteria, the appeals process, and filing for disability when receiving retirement benefits.
Guest Speaker – Dennis Heywood
Dennis Heywood will be our guest speaker. Dennis lives in Loveland, Ohio and is a graduate of Xavier University. His career at the Social Security Administration spanned nearly 30 years. He served as a claims representative, which was a public contact position that involved interviewing the public on a daily basis. This was a decision making position applying the social security law to claims for retirement, survivor, disability and medicare benefits. He also served as an operations supervisor where he monitored, trained and directed claims representatives and support staff in the Cincinnati-North Social Security Office. He served as a liaison to congressional offices, assisting constituents with social security issues.
